Frequently Asked Questions
These are some of the most common questions I had when I was first learning how to detail a car. I made this section to answer some questions that I had starting out, and I hope it can help other people who may be confused about detailing

Yes, you can but it all depends on where you live and if you have shade. It is highly recommended to use De-Ionized water because the minerals in tap water will create water marks if left to air-dry. If you are cleaning your car in the shade and it is not too hot where you live, it will be a lot easier. However, if you live somewhere like Las Vegas, it may be more challenging.

You will probably want to get your car cleaned by a professional if there are old, embedded water marks on your car. The best way to remove them is with a polisher but if the marks are only surface level, any water spot remover will work as long as you clean the car beforehand and do not use the chemical when the car paint is hot.

This is very common for being a mobile detailer. Water spots happen when water contains contaminants such as calcium or dust from the air, which etch into the car’s paint. The easiest solution (after a lot of trial and error on my part) is using distilled/de-ionized water. You can also use a drying aid or spray wax, but for this to work, you still need to work fast to dry the car before the sun creates water spots on the paint.

Foam cannons are used to apply soap to a vehicles exterior to apply lubrication before removing dirt/ debris. The best use for this is to clean a lightly dirty car without any contact washing or to pre-treat a very dirty car before going into a contact wash. Either way foam cannons are very useful.

Pre-soaking is used to lubricate the car’s paint and protect from any scratches that could happen. If your car is not very dirty at all, I would recommend using a rinseless wash instead. You will use less water and have an easier time drying your vehicle.

A rinse-less wash is a cleaning chemical that uses polymers to encapsulate the dirt and grime in such a way where you do not need to rinse the water and you can safely wipe it off using a drying towel. You can learn more at this website

You absolutely do not need a pressure washer to clean a car. The main use for a pressure washer is to rinse a vehicle off. for most cars all you really need is a rinseless wash and a drying towel. It does make cleaning cars much easier because with experience you can clean a dirty car with no contact at all sometimes and you can clean a very dirty car in half the time. If you tend to have a very dirty car then by all means go ahead and get a pressure washer but most people can make do without.

No, from my experience the tap water in Vegas is very hard compared to other places. Plus the lack of humidity and high heat, you will have to work VERY fast even with a drying aid to get a good clean. If you are in a controlled environment such as a garage then you wont have to worry about any environmental factors like that.

De-Ionized water can be bought from water stores all across the valley or you can purchase a DI filter online. These can get very expensive and if you are a DIYer cleaning your own car you can also just use gallons of distilled water from your local grocery store.

The reason why detailing services are so expensive is because not only are we cleaning a car but we are also accounting for gas, mileage on our vehicles, products, and paying for ourselves. We are also charging for the experience. Being able to have the knowledge and skill to clean a vehicle in a little time as possible takes repetition and extensive knowledge we learn from our own mistakes or hours of research making sure we know what we are doing.
